The events of the movie Flickan take place in the summer of 1981. A ten-year-old girl is left to stay with her aunt in the countryside while her parents travel to Africa to work in a development aid project. Soon the unreliable aunt also leaves the house and the girl decides it is time she started taking care of herself on her own.
The girl’s summer adventure is full of both happiness and sorrow. The world of the adults can often seem like an absurd place in the eyes of a ten-year-old. The girl escapes the loneliness and the harsh real world to a world of books, experiments and dreams.
